Simply the best Domino server health monitoring tool

VitalSigns is the premier tool for monitoring Domino, Mail, Application, Traveler, BlackBerry, and Sametime servers.  VitalSigns gives you peace of mind that your collaborative environment is working fine and advanced warning when it is not.

VitalSigns was built by customer input, based on customer experience and designed to excel at monitoring Domino servers.

Monitor IBM Domino servers with VitalSigns

Top Four Benefits for Domino Administrators

1. Verifies that Domino servers will respond to Notes client requests (the most important thing that end users care about: is the server "alive"?)

2. Detects Pending and Dead Mail pileups by directly querying the mail.box files. This is the second-most important thing that end users care about: getting their mail. Now. (VitalSigns can also automatically delete dead mail, if desired.)

3. Verifies and manages IBM® Notes® Traveler software aka “Traveler” which is rapidly becoming the most mission-critical Domino Server Task ever to be produced by IBM.   Notes Traveler tends to explode with demand, and if it goes down you are certainly going to hear about it.

4. Verifies and manages Domino server tasks -- the key subsystems  of a Domino server -- including the ability to start missing tasks, stop prohibited tasks, detect task hangs, and even restart the server if key tasks are hung. The most important thing for administrators is availability. If the server is supposed to be hosting web applications and HTTP is hung, the server needs to be restarted as soon as possible and VitalSigns can do it for you and tell you when its over.

Easily Share Status Information with Others

The VitalSigns dashboard is browser-enabled to quickly convey status information about all your monitored servers so that any interested party (for instance your manager or the Help Desk staff) can view the status information on their own – without calling you.

There is a wide variety of specialized views such as a dedicated IBM Notes Traveler health page, and the numerous reports and graphs make it easy to spot trends in your environment.

The Dashboard's color coded interface helps you identify problems at a glance, and every element is clickable – allowing you to drill down for detailed status information.

VitalSigns is designed to work with:

  • Windows XP
  • Windows Vista Windows 7
  • All Domino versions
  • All Domino platforms
  • 32 or 64 bit

Seven Key Measures of Domino Server Health

Lotus Domino is a unique platform and requires a monitoring tool designed specifically for it. There are five key areas of potential problems that we recommend all Administrators be aware of. They are:

Overall Health and Responsiveness

Mail Health

Cluster Health

Server Task Health

Disk Health

Database Health

Mobility Health

Overall Health and Responsiveness

VitalSigns independently verifies that Domino servers will respond to Notes client requests-- the most important thing that end users care about-- because it is a Notes client. It tracks response time and warns you when the server is getting sluggish.

VitalSigns automatically watches over key health statistics such as Server.Availability, Mem.Availability and Transaction Logging.

Mail Health

VitalSigns detects Pending and Dead Mail pileups by directly querying the mail.box files to absolutely make sure that the mail is flowing. You can even send test mail messages between servers for delivery metrics.

VitalSigns can also automatically delete dead mail, if desired.

IBM recommends that administrators periodically take the value of (Mail.Mailbox.AccessConflicts / Mail.Mailbox.Accesses) x 100 to determine if an additional mail.box file is needed. Who has time for this? VitalSigns does it automatically!

VitalSigns can produce a graph showing the biggest mail files across your enterprise or on specific servers.

Cluster Health

VitalSigns automatically watches over the right metrics such as Replica.Cluster.SecondsOnQueue and Replica.Cluster.WorkQueueDepth to make sure that your cluster replicators are keeping up with their work load. If they aren't, and users fail over, key information could be missing and the help desk will get swamped with calls. Be prepared.

VitalSigns also makes sure that there is a replica of each database across cluster members, and can produce a report showing the document count and database sizes.

As the Server.Availiabiliy approaches the Server.AvailablityThreshold, your Domino server is getting closer to failing over Notes clients to another server. VitalSigns detects this and lets you know.

Server Task Health

If the Domino server were a living body, then the server tasks would be the vital organs. A typical Domino server may have dozens of server tasks running at any given moment, such Agent Manager, HTTP, and Traveler, and Router. You need to make sure that they are all OK.

VitalSigns verifies and manages Domino Server Tasks, which means that it can automatically start missing tasks, stop prohibited tasks, detect task hangs, and even restart the server if key tasks are hung.

If your organization is running server tasks for compliance purposes, you can't take the chance that task might not be running!

Disk Health

Disk problems can bring a Domino server down or cause significant performance problems. VitalSigns automatically watches over available disk space, average queue length, and disk utilization, and warns you before trouble can strike.   Click here for more info.

Database Health

Database Health inventories your Notes databases across servers to find key properties such as LastModified date, size, template name, quota, ODS, document count, replication settings, and more.  VitalSigns opens each view and refreshes it, which not only improves performance for end users but detects most database corruptions.

Mobility Health

Every organization today is dependent on and vulnerable to the performance and reliability of their mobile communications infrastructure. Continuously available, timely and dependable mobile communications is a necessity for meeting clients needs and for effective team collaboration.

VitalSigns monitors the core components of your mobile communications system and places them into one easy to view module. Ensure that mobile devices are working and getting (sending/receiving) messages, know the number chat sessions going on within your IM system, secure lost devices, find out what OS is deployed on what device, VitalSigns provides full and transparent reporting though a graphical user interface, facilitating comprehensive management of a new cornerstone of the business world - mobile communications. Leverage the power of mobility for your enterprise and harness the power of VitalSigns to manage mobility securely and successfully.

Specifically, VitalSigns proactively watches over Lotus Traveler and BlackBerry on Domino.  It automatically checks key metrics, such as ensuring you have sufficient HTTP Sessions, so you don't have to.
